Company Information

The Cornille Family emigrated to America from France during the great Third Wave of immigration in the 1880s. They settled in the farming community in the Chicagoland area and began raising fruits and vegetables native to their Alsatian ancestry. Well known for his fair and honest business ethics and high quality farm products, George J. Cornille was selected by the community to represent them in the newly established Chicago South Water Market.

In 1925 Chicago was rapidly growing into a thriving metropolis where people from all nations and religious and ethnic backgrounds were seeking various and exotic ingredients of their native cuisines. Mr. Cornille took a two-fold approach to fulfilling the diverse needs of both established residents and immigrant newcomers. First, he worked hard to procure the variety of produce items demanded by customers. Second, he employed his broad knowledge of products and natural growing procedures to educate and enlighten his fellow farmers throughout the region, helping them meet the needs of a growing populace. His support helped to create a network of the finest farmers and merchants in the Midwest. Mr. Cornille’s continued efforts helped many of the farmers flourish in spite of the challenges brought by the Great Depression and WWII, and his uncompromising practice of good business ethics established a precedent that continues to this day.

Recognizing and honoring his philosophies and practices, the Cornille family continues to take the future of the produce industry down the path originally laid down by our founder to achieve the same goal: Sustenance and well-being for all! .
